Fiber-Coupled LEDs for In Vivo Implants by Mightex System

For in vivo optogenetics, fiber-coupled LEDs are capable of delivering light to a specific area of interest deep in the tissue, without disturbing cells in the vicinity.

Why the Mightex Fiber-coupled LEDs are the Perfect Solution

Precisely-timed and high-intensity light pulses are required in optogenetics experiments to activate channelrhodopsins (ChR2, ChR1 etc.) and halorhodopsins (NpHR) in order to excite and inhibit neurons.

To meet these requirements, Mightex has developed a proprietary “IntelliPulsing” technology to allow these sources to output significantly higher power in pulse mode than what the LEDs are rated for in CW mode..

Mightex Systems developed and produced fiber-coupled LEDs and light sources also employ the latest high-power LED technologies and a proprietary coupling optics to achieve maximum optical output power. This higher intensity compensates for losses through fine-core optical fibers, ultimately delivering enough light to the fiber output.

Switching Between Wavelengths

If the fiber is coupled to a multi-wavelength LED, different light-sensitive proteins can be activated without having to switch fibers.

Fiber coupled LEDs

Multiple LEDs with different emitting wavelengths can be combined into the same fiber output with high efficiency and without using any moving parts in the optical path.

The flexibility and output capacity of these fiber-coupled LEDs and light sources offer the ideal solution for optogenetics and other bio-photonics applications.
